HIS mouse model
Dr. Kees Weijer is veterinarian by education and finished his Ph.D. in 1979 at the University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands. From 1968 he worked at the Netherlands Cancer Institute/Antoni van Leeuwenhoekhuis at the department of Pathology, Virology and Immunology. In 1982 he founded the European Veterinary Laboratory (EVL) in Amsterdam and was managing director till 1999. Since 2003 he is a staff scientist at the department of Cell Biology & Histology of the Academic Medical Center in Amsterdam.
Dr. Weijer has been granted a preseedloan from I amStarter for commercialisation of his patented mouse model with a human immune system (HIS), which is especially designed for studying the immune system and can be used for preclinical testing of investigational therapeutics for diseases involving the immune system such as rheumatoid arthritis, colitis and asthma.
